Nike Air Max Day

Nike Air Max Day - 26.3.2015

March 26th, 1987. The release of the original Air Max made the invisible visible, opening a window to the sole like never before. Years prior in 1978, Air-Sole cushioning evolved from concept to reality with the debut of the Nike Tailwind. However, the innovation went largely overlooked for the simple fact that wearers couldn’t see it. Enter Tinker Hatfield. The legendary designer, who had moved from architecture to footwear design in 1985, stumbled upon a revolutionary insight while traveling through Paris. The city’s structures, some of which feature exposed interiors, inspired what would become visible air. The world was intrigued and runners were hooked. Visible air would take new shapes and forms with forthcoming classics like the Air Max 90, Air Max 95, and Air Max 360. What began as a window to the sole would blossom into the soul of the shoe - and soon, the soul of a culture.
