Air Jordan 1 Natural Grey/ Hyper Crimson
The Air Jordan 1 Natural Grey/ Hyper Crimson is a step in a new direction for the historic Jumpman design. In fact, we could very well be witnessing this shoe officially go high-fashion for 2019. At the very least, this colorway is a good marker of the AJ1’s new visuals to come.
The color-blocking element here is impressive. The division of a Natural Grey and Black base are relatively standard. Some may be reminded of the earlier Shadow version that sported a similar motif. However, the addition of the Hyper Crimson is eye-catching. This shade sits prominently on the ankle collar and even leads into part of the midfoot.
Perhaps the most interesting visual addition is the new lateral branding. The script reads ‘SP19 Air Jordan 1 High OG’. This comes across as a subtle ode to the sort of branding we see on high-fashion designs.
Though the colors are a visual treat, the materials offer something new as well. Outside of special releases, it’s rare to see the Air Jordan 1 mix cuts of leather. On this drop, we get the combination of both plush suede and textured tumbled leather. Either one would be perfect as the base material choice. But, combining them gives off an additional premium vibe.
The Air Jordan 1 was one of the frequently spotted styles from the Jumpman’s 2018 campaign. We may remember the year more for the Concord 11’s, but the 1 was a very popular sighting. Unfortunately, those frequent drops all started to look a bit unimaginative after a while.
We can only hope that this unique release signals some more visual and material experimentation from the Jumpman. The Air Jordan 1 is a classic thanks to its many OG-friendly features. However, a little forward-looking design can’t hurt.
Look out for these when they drop in February!
