The Air Jordan 11 has been the subject of some low-key hype for the last few years. Sure, we’ve seen some loud releases, featuring iconic hints such as a shoutout to UNC. But, there’s some player exclusive heat brought out by names like Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. One sneaker we’ve seen on their feet is now coming to the public, the Air Jordan 11 Gym Red.
Among sneakerheads, there won’t be many Christmas wishlists that don’t feature this illustrious model. The Air Jordan 11 is well suited to bold colorways, thanks in large part to a sizeable portion of patent leather. On this colorway, the tonal scheme is interrupted only by the shiny contrast this leather provides. A White midsole and icy outsole complete the look.
The Air Jordan 11 is looking at some isolated instances of heat in the next year. We have a while to wait for some other hotly pursued colorways, but this Gym Red iteration should do just fine. The 11 is special in the eyes of many a fan of Jordan Brand. When the shoe initially dropped, Jordan had recently come back from retirement and was looking to show that there should be no concerns over something like rust on the proverbial wheels.
The prevailing notion around NBA executives was that the old Jordan was gone and the league was getting back some clunky speedster with an aging motor. Jordan, ever the one to prove people wrong, wanted a sneaker to help him show off some of the speed and athleticism he hadn’t lost. But, the shoe also needed to withstand the aggressive change of speeds he was prone to exhibit. As a result, the design of the Air Jordan 11 would be inspired by speedy convertibles, the patent leather being more functional at this point.
We’re all thankful for the GOAT’s athletic exploits, there was often no grander show on the planet. As it turns out, a key design aspect of an all-time favorite in the sneaker community is thanks to the man’s Hall of Fame pull-up jumper.
