On March 16, 1966 the Vans success story was born, as Paul Van Doren and three of his partners opened up the first Vans Shop ever on 704 Broadway in Anaheim, California. What was special about the Van Doren Rubber Company was the fact that they produce their sneaker on-site and were able to sell them directly to their customers. The first Vans that saw the light of the day was the Vans #44 Deck Shoe, following by the Vans #95 – nowadays better known as the Vans Authentic and the Vans Era. In order to compete with other sporting goods manufacturer Paul Van Doren developed besides skating sneakers, goods for baseball, basketball and wrestling.
